Young children have tremendous magnetism. They know how to pull our attention toward them. Their smiles and intent capture and hold us. Have you ever found yourself smiling back and forth with a child that you have never met before or making strange sounds just because it made them laugh?
How lucky do we feel when they choose to delight us? Whether it is a game of Peekaboo or singing the same song twenty times, it is amazing what we will do in the company of an open hearted child. Children know where their strength lies. They understand the glory of doing something for themselves and they know the freedom of resonating with the truth.
Everyday we interact with people and exchange glances, words and impressions. Sometimes we are so busy that we don't notice the surprised or hurt look on someone else's face as we leave a supermarket, bank or school parking lot. We may have pushed past them through the door as we rushed to our next meeting or scowled at them on the checkout line when they took too long getting the change out of their purse. Unfortunately we may also miss the look of love and adoration that comes to us when we say just the right thing or say nothing at all but listen with a heart that hears without judgment. Everything we do leaves a mark. Some marks wipe off just like chocolate syrup on a refrigerator and some are more long lasting and have residual effects.
There are times when life is steady and predictable and there are times when it is not and we can either flow or flail. Right now we are being asked to move between the known and the unknown. We are discovering how to shift with the movement of energy. Similar to swimming in the ocean, we are realizing that it is best not to lose all our strength fighting the current. There are low tides and high tides, rip tides and waves. If we are attentive, we begin to realize that everything is cyclical.
There are times in our life when we feel as if we are going to crack, when the strain or conditions that we have been enduring seem far too heavy and unmanageable. It is as though life is pouring a continuous bucket of problems over our head. We may feel zapped into a lethargic state or one that is manic, nervous or fearful. Or we may feel overwhelmingly angry and victimized. These experiences can drain our energy and undermine our quest. When this is happening in our life, it is usually a sign that the universe is working on us, telling us that these circumstances can actually be pivotal opportunities on our journey.
